Here’s an excerpt:  “…Take the dude who said to me today, “Hey momma,” as I walked past him wearing a necktie and cuff links.  Did I “holla back”?  My face said it all.  Ass.  (Never saw him coming.)

Obviously, there will be petty, intolerant, presumptuous and just plain scary people by whom or with whom we must travel to reach our destinations.  They’ve been hanging around since the beginning of time.  That said, this epidemic of street harassment – be it in the form of a grunt, a gesture or a challenge to fistfight – will continue to go unchecked without socialization overhauls on simultaneous fronts.  Commitment to social change requires activism in our hearts, minds and homes, as well as in the streets.  In workplaces, schools, places of worship, and places of leisure; through media and legislation; and in our willingness to stand up for ourselves and intercede for others, combating harassment must become norm, not exception.
